Lately, for the last few months, I realised that my monthly AdSense revenue has dropped quite drastically. The drop can be as much as 500% or more for a month for the past 3-4 months. So I decided to check it out and do some analysis across my sites.

BTW, if you only know of Google AdSense as a monetization model, then you should continue to read this post.

Besides using AdSense on my network of sites, I am also monetizing a few of my sites with other traffic monetization models such as Kontera, Bidvertiser, Advertlets etc.

As I looked deeper into my revenue statistics among the few monetization models in place on my network of sites, I realised that many of the clicks are going from my AdSense into the other monetization models, particularly Kontera and Advertlets. One interesting thing to note is that I am having more clickthroughs on these programs than I got from AdSense itself.

For example, I am experiencing at least 200-500% more clickthroughs on Kontera than AdSense on a single day itself (for many days). However, take note that this higher CTR does not necessarily equate to higher revenue from Kontera in comparison to AdSense. The reason being the PPC for Kontera is generally lower than that of AdSense (can be really low for Kontera!). I am sure most of us can understand this since Google AdWords is so competitive these days in terms of keywords’ bid prices. Nevertheless, this is good news for AdSense publishers because they will be getting more $ per click.

If you ask me for justifications as to why this is happening, I only have the possible deductions below:

1. Many people are already used to seeing Google AdSense ads all over the place, and are starting to ignore them. And trust me, some people who are aware of publishers earning revenue from Google whenever they click on the Google ads, will not click on those ads.

2. Because of the different way Kontera is rendering their ads on a web page, many online visitors will be curious to click on those ads and see what comes up for them. Also, when you monetize with Kontera, your ads can be appearing all over the web pages based on advertisers’ keywords and your readers can be seeing Kontera’s ads on any part of a web page (this maximises visibility of the ads although sometimes it can be a little irritating). In comparison to AdSense, your visitors will only see the Google ads on those strategically-placed locations on a web page (which many visitors have learned to visually ‘ignore’).

I do not want to make this post too lengthy. So I will cut my story short and offer you one tip to immediately increase your profits online this month:

If you run a popular forum online, go and apply for Kontera now and monetise your forum(s) with Kontera. Once you are in and properly setup, you will be basically monetizing all your existing and new forum contents immediately, and the best part is: your contents will be created by your users and not you.

Kontera is free and easy to implement too. Just copy and paste a piece of code onto your web pages and you are ready to start another new stream of online revenue. BTW, Google AdSense and Kontera can run concurrently on the same web page without violating the Google T&Cs.

So, good luck and remember to subscribe to my newsletters, or RSS feed, or social bookmark my site if you love to see more updates from me!

Ashley’s numbers are indeed impressive. A 17 years old high school dropout who has made more than $1 million online. Her earnings can be as much as $70K a month from a web site that she owns which attracts more than 7 millions monthly visitors and 60 millions page views!

Ashley’s 1st Google Adsense cheque was $2,790 and she has already rejected a $1.5 million buyout offer for her site WhateverLife.com, a free MySpace layouts web site.

Hope this can serve as an inspiration and motivation to my readers on what is possible with the Internet.

If you use MySpace.com, remember to grab some free MySpace stuff from Ashley Qualls!

Lately, I am getting several Facebook invitations every single day. It was so much fiercer than any of the other social networking sites such as Friendster, MySpace, Hi5 etc that sprung up in the past few years. There are many fun user applications that can be plugged into your Facebook profile to let you play with. While the fun can be really addicting to some users, it may be a sheer irritant to some when you see your Inbox flooded with many friendly and harmless invitations to get you involved with Facebook every single day. Are you already part of it?

In any case, this is another real case study of how someone can become a Billionaire within a short period of 2-5 years using the power and leverage of the Internet if you have and can execute a great idea well. Founders of Skype, YouTube and the likes, and now Facebook founder Mark should be laughing all the way to the bank!

Microsoft buys into Facebook for $240m

Microsoft has won one over Google and Yahoo, but at a price.

After being scooped by its rivals in past bidding contests, Microsoft has won a 1.6% stake in social network site Facebook for $240 million.

The deal, announced Wednesday, values the three-and-half-year-old company with $150 million revenue at $15 billion.

Under the terms agreed, Microsoft will become Facebook’s exclusive third party advertising channel outside the US. It already has the rights to sell banner ads in the US until 2011.

Kevin Johnson, president of Microsoft’s platforms & services division, said the deal was “a strong statement of our confidence in the long-term economics of this partnership.”

Facebook chief revenue office Owen Van Natta said the expanded relationship “will allow Facebook to continue to innovate and grow as a technology leader and major player in social computing.”

Across the blogs, the initial response was cautious and aimed at finding out more about the deal.

Reporting the conference call announcing the deal, Silicon Alley Insider noted that the two executives referred repeatedly to “certain aspects of the agreement that both parties have agreed not to disclose.”

The New York Times said the “astronomical valuation” was a sign Microsoft believed it couldn’t afford to lose out on the deal.

It also notes that Facebook’s founder, 23-year-old Harvard dropout Mark Zuckerberg, is now worth $3 billion, while VC firm Accel Partners has turned its $12.7 million investment into $1.65 billion.

Forbes.com described the deal as a “huge boost” for Microsoft’s online ad business, while Jim Goldman at CNBC’s TechCheck said Microsoft had to be careful “it doesn’t do to Facebook what News did to MySpace”, which was fill it with ads that drove users away.

Hi all, I am finally back from my 2+ weeks of in-camp training in the Army. Just in case you think that serving the army does not help me in anyway in my internet marketing ventures, then my answer may surprise some of you.

First of all, the army is a military organisation and in such an organisation, maintaining one’s discipline while in camp is important such as waking up early for work, diligently carrying out duties that one has been assigned with etc. In my internet marketing businesses, the same holds true. I need to commit myself with utmost discipline to the objectives, goals and milestones that I have set for my Internet marketing businesses. If I am commited to spending 2 hours each day to drive traffic to my web sites, then I got to put aside whatever I need to, to ensure that I am spending 2 hours of productive time to engage myself in traffic generation strategies. This seems to validate what my Internet millionaire mentor Stephen Pierce was telling me about.

Secondly, while I was inside my army camp, I have very limited or no access to the Internet at all because the camp prohibits military personnel to bring in any devices that has any AV functions such as camera or video recorders and even mobile phones that have these functions, or memory storage devices such as memory cards. All these restrictions nudged me again that I need to further automate my Internet businesses on more aspects so that I can minimise disruptions to my online businesses while I am away from the computer and Internet.

Serving my National Service for the country has created many inconveniences for me as well as the hundreds of thousands of NSmen in Singapore. Nevertheless, this is something that we have to do in order to safeguard the peace and stability of Singapore. While many people, both locally and internationally, are laughing at how much a small country like Singapore can do to defend themselves, obviously they are missing out on things that they are not too clear about. In short, defending Singapore is not only about military defence. In fact, there are much more to it, such as economic defence.

The purpose of maintaining a Singapore’s army is not to go out to fight a war with any country, but more to act as a deterrent for any country who tries to play punk with Singapore. While Singapore may not win a war when it comes, we are sure that anyone who tries to attack us will experience a good setback in their military and economic resources when the war is over. Also, not forgetting the fact that when Singapore disappears from the face of this earth, so does the tens of billions of dollars that the Singapore government has invested in other economic powers of the world.

Fighting a war needs lots of money, and not many countries can afford that. I hope our 300,000 soldiers in Singapore will never need to go to war…

My mentor Stephen Pierce mentioned about the importance of one’s mindset in doing Internet Marketing. I found it to be very true as most people gave up halfway before they can achieve anything worthwhile online.

I have learned one very important thing from Stephen, that is to focus, be persistent and patient.

If any one of you are reading this now and you think that you are not achieving the results that you want online, please persevere on. You will see the light at the end of the tunnel if you continue driving. But if you give up, you know what will happen to you. At best, it will only affect yourself. At its worst, you could be affecting all the others behind you. Does this make sense to you?

Technical and marketing knowledge is easy to acquire. You can even outsource them. Mindset, however, on the other hand, is harder to be trained and the unfortunate part of it is that you cannot outsource your brain to someone to think and internalise stuff for you.

During the World Internet Summit 2007 in Singapore, Ewen Chia mentioned about himself shamelessly promoting himself on the Internet when he was doing Internet Marketing. This is something that I did not want to do for many years in the past. However, I decided to make a change today. If it is working well for him in terms of branding himself online, then I guess I can take a good lesson from him. After all, he is the one that is making millions online, I am not. Not yet I mean but I can do it.

My short term goal for the next 6 months is to earn my first USD$10,000 online this year, excluding those money that I have made online prior to 2007. Looking at my results this year so far, it may be possible. Just from one program alone, I have generated USD$65+ in April, USD$383+ in May, and USD$108+ in June so far. This excludes the other programs that I am promoting so far this year. Conservatively, all the other programs should add up to a few hundreds US dollars in pure profits for me. Not bad for a start.
